Dear Friends,
I know we all plan early for the Labor Day Weekend so I wanted to make you aware of some great programs we have coming up for our grand finale over Labor Day weekend!
Our Skidompha Poetry Circle will have a Discussion and Reading on Friday, August 30 from 2:30 – 4:00 PM, followed by their Book Launch & Celebration! Yes, their Book Launch! The Poetry Circle has collaborated to publish a number of their poems in a book which will be debuted in the Secondhand Book Shop from 6-8pm. This is a “must” for any poetry enthusiast. Please stop by to talk and enjoy poetry with some marvelous poets.
Novel Jazz will also be back at 7pm on August 30th for an evening of hot swinging jazz out of the Great American Songbook. Novel Jazz always puts on a great show, and I urge you to come and enjoy this concert to send off summer. This is a free concert and all are welcome to listen and dance the night away, but we do request you consider a donation to Skidompha (suggested $20/person), or to our Little Free Pantry.
On Saturday, August 31st, we will host our annual End of Summer Read Bash with freeze pops, cornhole, and lots of fun. This will also be the last day to hand in your bingo sheets and collect your raffle tickets. And our very own Skidompha Strummers will be celebrating Music on the Porch Day that morning as well. Music on the Porch Day is an international movement to get people to take a break, go outside, and enjoy some music with their friends and neighbors. Sounds pretty good to me
***Inter-Library Loan Update***
If you haven’t heard yet, ILLs are coming back!!! It has been too long for us to be without ILLs. Van delivery officially restarts on 8/26, however, our new courier, STAT, will only be picking up and returning materials that have been waiting at libraries since the service with our previous vendor ended on 6/30. STAT also needs to test routes that week. We need to allow STAT time to do the route testing with minimum volume, so we cannot begin fulfilling any patron ILL requests until after Labor Day. STAT will be visiting libraries next week starting on 8/20 to test delivery routes and introduce themselves.
Our prior delivery days of Tuesday and Thursday could change. We will not be provided any verification of our delivery days until at least the end of this week (8/23). We cannot wait to start up again and share and borrow resources from collections around the country. Thank you to everyone for their good-natured patience, we have the best patrons!
A couple of notes: we will not be able to place holds on books from outside our Library until after Labor Day when the service fully resumes; and that will be only on a limited basis so we do not overwhelm the delivery vans in their first few weeks. We’re asking that you limit your first round of requests to no more than two or three books per patron. Thank you for your patience. I know MSL is working hard to ensure the smoothest transition possible but this is a large, complicated project and we are bound to encounter some bumps along the way. Thank you in advance!
Be well,
Matthew
