Hello friends,
One of the best feelings this time of year is bringing a literal armful of thank-you letters over to the post office. It truly is so inspiring to do this errand a couple times a week throughout the months of November and December — we have so many people to thank for their support of the Library, and we never grow tired of doing so. All those letters are a very tactile reminder of the great generosity this community possesses, and Skidompha is just one of its beneficiaries. We are truly so grateful!
This season, I’ve tried to focus on what makes our community such a welcoming, sustaining place to live and work. A combination of kind, committed people, great businesses, and dedicated nonprofits all contribute to this feeling, but I think that generosity may be at the heart of it all. It’s very easy to feel that there is so much in the world worthy of our attention and energy; it’s just as easy to feel overwhelmed by all those worthy endeavors, to feel like we can’t do enough to support them. But our collective actions at a local level have a huge impact, in our community and beyond it. I encourage us all to look locally, to enjoy the many things which make this place special, and to discover where our generosity can find expression.
Skidompha’s annual fall appeal is one great way to support our community, and giving to the Library can take many forms. Gifts can be given in the name of a loved one, memberships are a fun gift to share with a friend (they come with many perks!), and a gift certificate to our Second-hand Bookshop, run by an incredible team of volunteers, is a great way to both support the Library and tempt the book lover in your life. I hope you’ll help us exceed our end-of-year goal — I’d love to see your name in our stack of thank-yous!
I wish everyone in our community a restorative holiday season, whether we find it with the joyful chaos of friends and family, curled up with a book in a quiet room, or enjoying the beauty of the outdoors. As always, we can’t wait to see you soon at Skidompha!
Be well,
Chloe
