Hello Friends,
Hard to believe we’re approaching the end of December, let alone the end of 2024. It’s easy to get caught up in the frenetic schedules of the holidays and I’d like to gently remind you all to take care of yourself, to be your own best friend, and give yourself some time, patience, and grace. To help foster an opportunity for exactly that, Skidompha will be hosting a Self-Care Second in Porter Hall on Friday, from 10AM until noon. We’ll have warm drinks, dim lights, cozy seating, and a bit of quiet for whoever needs it. A stop off at Skidompha for a few moments of peace and relaxation may be just what you need that day? If anyone asks, we promise not to tell anyone you’re here!
Then, on Saturday, we will be celebrating the Winter Solstice with a concert from Novel Jazz! Join us at 7PM to celebrate warmth and community with good music and good company. This program is free, but donations are always welcome. Whether it’s cash towards the Library’s operation, or closed food and hygiene products for our Little Free Pantry, every bit of help is greatly appreciated.
A couple of notes, we’re staying with our winter storm closure practice of following AOS 93 and their schedule. If they are delayed, we are delayed. If they are closed, we are closed. One caveat however, we must have a minimum of two staff covering the library at all times, and we may deviate from AOS 93’s plan if weather or trees down across the road make it impossible for us to maintain this level of staffing.
Also, we will be taking our usual winter break over the holidays. We will be open until 2PM on Christmas eve, and then reopen on Thursday, January 2nd at 9AM. There are rumors, subtle murmurings even, that we may have A Christmas Story playing on one of our monitors, and have cookies and tea available while we are open on Christmas eve.
And an update on our Teen Room project. We’re almost done moving all the furniture and artwork around the first and second floor of Skidompha. You may notice we’ve moved our old card catalog drawers at the entrance into the main atrium. We’ve placed a new quick print station and online public access catalog on top of that beautiful piece of history for your convenience. You may have to wake up the stations by tapping the keyboard, but we hope you will find those additions helpful.
That’s all for now, and I look forward to seeing you in 2025!
Be well,
Matthew
