2024.09.05 Staff Interests

Dear Friends,

I proudly and frequently speak of the Skidompha staff, about their professionalism, passion, and kindness, but our own Meghan H. suggested that, in our next letter, we share some less formal information about all of us. She felt that sharing some of our current passions might be a fun way to get to know us all a little better. Great idea, Meghan! So in no particular order, and with mysteriously little detail or explanation, see below:

  • Kristi Favaloro (Children’s Librarian) is currently obsessed with NYT word games, her adorable pupper, Layla, the book Luigi the Spider who wanted to be a Kitten, by Michelle Knudson, and the recent chilly mornings.
  • Frazier Arets (Teen Librarian) is preoccupied with cowboy romance books, matcha from Barn Door, Trader Joe’s Herb Popcorn, and pretty much anything and everything strawberry.
  • Meghan Hawkes (Circ Desk and Communications Director) is focusing on the link between fairy tales and murder ballads, heritage apple varieties, coffee from Rue77, and The Old Gods of Appalachia podcast.
  • Chloe Deblois (Development Director) is into The Book of Elsewhere, by China Mieville and Keanu Reeves, looking for frogs before they go into hibernation, and fall baking (HOORAY! – mg.)
  • Hannah Doktor (Adult Librarian) has her attention focused on Bearded Dragon Halloween costumes, horror books involving sea or space ships, Settlers of Catan, and cold brew with coconut syrup from Barn Door.
  • Terry Hapach (Head Librarian) wrapped up watching the entire six seasons of Dark Shadows, and continues challenging her husband to games of Upwords, a version of 3-D Scrabble.
  • Jeannette Eaton (programmer, Mindfulness Meditation and Poetry) is concentrating on being in water, the show Slow Horses, Korean Steamed Tofu, making playlists for characters she writes about, and family bike rides.
  • Samatha Aho (Saturday Circ Desk) is possessed by Sabrina Carpenter’s new album Short n’ Sweet, Chappell Roan, Beetlejuice (specifically the musical but she is very excited to see the new movie), and Talia Hibbert’s book trilogy The Brown Sisters (her favorite of the three is Act Your Age, Eve Brown).
  • Matthew Graff (Executive Director) – I’m obsessed with planning my next trip, what caused Red Bull’s loss of form, and why McLaren has not bestowed the #1 driver spot to Norris. Also, understanding animal intelligence and communication, and my cat, Pumpkin, AKA Pie-Guy.

Our staff are so diverse and fascinating in their interests! It is no wonder Skidompha shines as it does. Everyone here brings a bit of themselves to their jobs and Skidompha is the richer for it. What are you obsessing about these days?

Be well,

Matthew
