2024.08.01 August Summer Reading

Hello friends,

My head is spinning realizing that it will be August when you receive this note in your email. I can never get used to how quickly the summer speeds by. I can vividly remember early spring of this year when at one of our morning staff meetings we were talking about how quickly summer would arrive and what we had left to do in preparation for Summer Reading…

Speaking of our Summer Reading Program, we still have all of August left for you to join in our fun, pick up a bingo sheet (or three) and be part of the Skidompha Community! Yet again our Marvelous Skidompha Mavens have knocked it out of the park with a broad selection of programming for all age groups. Earlier in July we had a life-size game of Candyland mapped out in the atrium for people to play. Can you believe we had almost 50 people attend? There was a great concert with Novel Jazz, a wildlife tour of Muscongus Bay with Midcoast Kayak, a D&D campaign at the Owl Wood Fair, intergenerational book clubs, and free movie screenings in partnership with the Lincoln Theater.

But we are not done; we still have lots of fun coming up in August! Looking for a musical break? How about joining us on 8/6 to listen to Salt Bay Chamberfest musician, Angel Sobero, demonstrate his skills with the violin. On 8/13 there is a Hand Broom Workshop with Eric McIntyre of Village Handcraft. On 8/23 we have another intergenerational book club to discuss The Adventures of a Girl Called Bicycle by Christina Uss. How about a nature walk with Maine Master Naturalist Heather Hardy, at Coastal Rivers’ Preserve on 8/28.

A small taste of what else is lined up for August: Stop Motion Video creation for kids, more D&D, The Lego Movie 2 – The Second Part, our Annual Escape Room, a Damariscotta River Cruise, a celebration of poetry with The Skidompha Weekly Poetry Circle and their Poetry Discussion and Reading program (this one is going to be big!), Novel Jazz again, The Skidompha Strummers, and our fabulous End of Summer Reading Bash!

Watch this space for details and many more announcements. We can’t wait to share the fun with all of you.

Be well,

Matthew
